11.15am to 11.50am
In this session we'll examine the need for Software Define Networks (SDN) and demonstrate how they can work to deliver dramatic and quickly realised benefits. We will review HP's comprehensive SDN framework inclusive of infrastructure, control, application and management, as well as an open SDN ecosystem which offers an environment for University IT departments to rapidly tune the network to meet the needs of users and applications. Applications are what will drive SDN technology into mainstream networking prominence. Taking this into consideration we will explore how, with the support of the HP SDN Developer Kit, IT teams, researchers and students can access the tools necessary to develop, simulate and validate enterprise-grade SDN applications to share or sell on the new HP SDN App Store. In the session we will also be joined by Dr Nicholas Race of Lancaster University who, by utilising HP SDN technology, has already made SDN a reality and at the same time positioned Lancaster University as one of the leading players in Europe in this field. Nicholas will be on hand in the Q&A to give a real-world view of the key considerations for a successful SDN deployment, the benefits it has brought to the University and the opportunities SDN presents for the 21st century University network
