In 2004 The University of Exeter and Falmouth University chose to set up a shared campus. A wholly owned shared services company to deliver IT, library services and student services was set up to assist with this challenge, whilst also delivering more traditional shared or outsourced services such as catering, caretaking and estates. This talk aims to report on the past challenges associated with shared services and discuss how technology either aided or disadvantaged these, and to finish a brief look into the future to discuss the potential challenges and developments ahead
